Biographical / Historical

The Jefferson County Abstract, Real Estate and Investment Company was incorporated in 1891 by Al Townsend (President), George Townsend (Vice President) and A.D. Jameson (Secretary and Treasurer). Its predecessor was the Golden City and Jefferson County Abstract Office, which was founded by D.C. Crawford and A.D. Jameson. Their earlier abstract books were purchased by the later company. Al Townsend served as Jefferson County's Clerk and Recorder for 20 years and his son George Townsend served as a deputy officer in various county offices for many years.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Stock Certificate Book was donated to the Archives in 2007 by the Golden Landmark Association. A Transfer agreement was signed in 2007 but the item was never accessioned. The accession number was assigned 7/2010.
