Biographical / Historical
According to the Colorado Revised Statutes (C.R.S. 30-10-110), before performing any duties of the office, every county officer must execute and deposit an official bond on or before the day of commencement of the term for which the officer was elected. The officer must also take an oath or affirmation in front of an officer authorized to administer oaths, and deposit it with the official bond. In lieu of a bond, a county may purchase crime insurance coverage of behalf of county officers and county employees to protect the people of the county from any malfeasance on the part of the officer while in office or employees. A deputy appointed to office, before entering upon the deputy’s duties under such appointment, must also take the like oath of office as that required to be taken by the appointing officer and shall deposit it in the office where the oath of such officer is deposited. In Jefferson County, these oaths are deposited with the Clerk to the Board.
