Thomas Sullard Manuscript: Public Education in Lakewood, Colorado at Wadsworth Blvd. & 10th Ave., 2012
Scope and Contents
In July of 2011, the Jefferson County School District demolished the public education building that stood at 1005 Wadsworth Blvd. for over eight decades and served a variety of educational purposes throughout its lifetime. Central Lakewood Elementary, also known as Lakewood School, made a rich and valuable contribution to public education in Lakewood, Colorado and its surrounding neighborhood. Historical context as it relates to Colorado, Jefferson County and Lakewood sets the stage for the story associated with the Lakewood School and its associated schools. The many buildings that were eventually built and expanded on, at the corner of 10th Ave. and Wadsworth Blvd., were known as the “Education Complex” or campus. Rich, personal recollections of each public school building provide the human, cultural, historical and the very fabric of what these public education buildings meant to Central Lakewood in this unpublished manuscript.
