Biographical / Historical
In December 2016, walls in the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Building began showcasing the history of the 1st Judicial District, which includes Jefferson and Gilpin Counties. The project was part of a plan to display information about current and former judges serving under the merit selection system used since 1967, judges who were elected and served from 1876 to 1969, judges who served prior to statehood in the territorial era (1861-1876), and those who served during the gold rush era (1858-1861).
Biographical summaries and portraits, when available, were featured along with sketches of each court house and maps. The Judges’ Wall exhibit was a combined effort of the Jefferson County Historical Commission, the 1st Judicial District Court Administrator’s Office and the Colorado Supreme Court Law Library. This collection contains original photographs scanned for the exhibit and copies of the biographies of the judges featured.
