Scope and Contents This collection contains documents and photographs gathered and assembled from various sources by the Archives regarding the tree on Hackberry Hill that was ultimately cut down due to the straightening of Wadsworth Blvd. north of Arvada in 1937. The Festival of the West began as a project of the Jefferson County Historical Commission for the Centennial-Bicentennial celebration of July 3-4, 1976. It was ranked among the top 20 national bicentennial events. There was an effort in 2000, supported by County Commissioner Pat Holloway, to determine if the property qualified for National or State Historic Register listing, and if so, to ensure preservation of the ranch after the decommissioning of Rocky Flats.
